The tickets for any mode of travel are a perishable commodity and if all the tickets are not booked before the start of a journey, they are wasted. In case of transport systems like railways, where the timings are fixed, there is little flexibility in running the trains, since schedules of other trains will be disrupted if there is a slightest delay .
On the other hand, for vehicles like buses, depending on the number of bookings for a particular journey, a bus trip may be canceled or combined with some other trip or prices may be reduced.
